Keep Louisiana Beautiful Opens Applications For 2016-2017 Grant Programs

BATON ROUGE – Keep Louisiana Beautiful (KLB) will begin accepting applications for their 2016-2017 grant programs on Monday, January 18, 2016. In addition to the Healthy Communities Grant, KLB will be introducing a new grant opportunity for KLB affiliates – The Trash Receptacle Mini Grant Program.

The Healthy Communities Grant, which funded a combined $200,000 in 2015, is designed to encourage community action in areas of litter abatement, waste reduction, environmental education and stewardship, training, litter enforcement, and recycling.  Funded programs range from school recycling programs, environmental law enforcement to community waterway cleanups.

The Trash Receptacle Mini Grant Program was developed to increase the number of trash receptacles in our affiliate communities. Littering rates decrease as the convenience of using a proper receptacle increases. This conclusion is consistent with findings from research conducted by those in the field that have studied littering behavior as it correlates with receptacle placement. The program assists KLB affiliates by providing attractive, durable and high-quality trash receptacles.

“By increasing the number of receptacles available, littering can be greatly reduced,” said Susan Russell, Executive Director of KLB. “This was the basis of KBL creating a new grant to fund trash receptacles placed in public spaces. We are thrilled to fund local initiatives and support those who are working for a cleaner and more beautiful Louisiana through all of our grant opportunities.”

Since 2004, Keep Louisiana Beautiful has awarded $2.7 million in grants to local communities in the areas of litter abatement, waste reduction, recycling, and environmental education.

Grant applications will be accepted between January 18, 2016 and April 7, 2016, by 5:00 p.m.
