SHREVEPORT, La. (AP) — A federal judge in Louisiana has again refused to block removal of a Confederate monument from the grounds of a local courthouse.
U.S. District Judge Robert James this week denied a motion to reconsider his January decision against the United Daughters of the Confederacy. The group's Shreveport chapter sued after the Caddo Parish Commission voted to remove the monument. The organization sought a preliminary injunction blocking removal pending a trial.
There currently is no trial date. The parish, meanwhile, has not announced specific plans to move the 30-foot-tall marble and granite monument.
James ruled in January, and again Monday, that the Daughters of the Confederacy has so far failed to prove that it owns the monument site as the result of an early 20th century donation by the parish.
