The Port of New Orleans hosted the 105th American Association of Port Authorities Annual Convention Oct. 23-26 at the Sheraton New Orleans Hotel. Industry leaders and government officials participated in panels over the course of the conference, and the Exhibit Hall encouraged networking and business solutions. Special events like the opening night second line parade to the House of Blues and the Taste of Louisiana at Mardi Gras World showed AAPA members how we do hospitality in New Orleans.
Sharing Sustainability Practices
Green Marine held an informational seminar Oct. 27 in New Orleans. More than 50 people took part and listened to a presentation from Dr. Lee Kindberg, Director of Environment and Sustainability at Maersk Line, as well as a welcome address by Port NOLA President and CEO Brandy D. Christian.

Across State Lines
Members of the Southern Legislative Conference of the Council of State Governments visited the Port of New Orleans Nov. 14 and received a briefing on container terminal expansion, enhanced intermodal capabilities and channel deepening. The group also toured the Port aboard the Fireboat Gen. Kelley.

All Aboard
On Nov. 23 Port NOLA held a plaque exchange with Crystal Cruises marking Crystal Serenity’s maiden voyage from the Port of New Orleans. The Crystal Serenity is consistently voted the No. 1 cruise ship in the world by Condé Nast Traveler and can serve 1,070 guests.

Presidential Purpose
Tulane University President Michael Fitts visited the Port of New Orleans Jan. 12 to meet with Port President and CEO Brandy D. Christian and Port commissioners. Fitts toured the upriver terminals and discussed opportunities for the University and the Port to collaborate.

Continental Cooperation
The Port NOLA Commercial team hosted a small delegation from the Inland Waterways Authority of India Jan. 12. The program included presentations by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, U.S. Coast Guard, MARAD and the Port, and a lively interchange of ideas during the information exchange and the tour aboard the Fireboat Gen. Kelley.
