BATON ROUGE (AP) — Gov. Bobby Jindal will have a new chief budget adviser for the final three months of his term.
The governor's office announced Tuesday that Kristy Nichols is resigning as commissioner of administration to take a private sector job. Her resignation takes effect Oct. 15.
Stafford Palmieri, Jindal's deputy chief of staff, will take the job when Nichols leaves.
The commissioner of administration manages many of the operations of day-to-day government, sets financial policies across cabinet agencies and oversees the governor's budgeting plans.
Nichols' exit isn't unexpected. With Jindal term-limited and running for the Republican presidential nomination, many of his top leaders have been moving onto other jobs.
Nichols is headed to Ochsner Health System, where she will be vice president for corporate affairs. Palmieri is a long-time aide to Jindal.
