HARVEY, LA – Longtime Jefferson Parish Sheriff’s Office (JPSO) public information officer Col. John Fortunato announced his retirement today and his intention to run for Parish Sheriff in a special election next March.
According to The New Orleans Advocate’s Ramon Antonio Vargas, Fortunato will make his formal announcement later today.
Vargas reports Fortunato, 66, has spent nearly 50 years in law enforcement and worked under Sheriff Harry Lee, Sheriff Newell Normand, and currently Interim Sheriff Joseph Lopinto, who he will likely run against.
