GRETNA, LA (AP) — Officials say employees stole from Jefferson Parish public schools for the third year in a row.
NOLA.com/The Times-Picayune’s Danielle Dreilinger says an audit released Monday found that an elementary school account clerk took about $2,100 in student activity funds and a high school teacher stole about $1,100 in proceeds from a fundraiser during the 2015-2016 school year.
The school board's report says the clerk has paid the school back, but the teacher has not. Both employees have resigned. The report did not identify the employees or the campuses.
School system officials notified the district attorney and legislative auditor, and investigations are ongoing.
Officials say two employees stole at least $38,000 during the 2014-2015 school year. The previous year, an accounts clerk was accused of stealing about $75,000.
