Jefferson, Orleans Parish Councils On Aging To Host White House Conference On Aging Watch Party

METAIRIE, LA – The Jefferson and Orleans Parish Councils on Aging will host a watch party at Jefferson Parish East Bank Regional Library, 4747 W. Napoleon Ave. on Monday, July 13, 2015, from 9:00 a.m. – 11:00 a.m.

         They will tune into the White House Conference on Aging, which will mark the 50th anniversary of Medicare.

         New Orleanian and Tulane graduate Nora Super heads up the White House Conference on Aging as Executive Director.

         The conference takes place once a decade (last one was in 2005) and brings together leading thinkers, constituencies and stakeholders in the aging community for robust dialogue on what lies ahead.

         The first conference was held in 1961 and has been viewed as a catalyst for establishing or improving Medicare, Medicaid, Social Security, and the Older Americans Act.

         The local Councils on Aging say 1 in 2 Louisiana seniors/ adults with disabilities could get additional help from Medicare of they would apply.
