METAIRIE – The Jefferson Community Youth Leadership program presented by 1st Lake Properties is re-launching in September. The Jefferson Community Foundation, Jefferson Business Council and Jefferson Chamber of Commerce are partners in the endeavor.
The mission of JCYL is to spark a lifelong commitment to leadership in Jefferson Parish. It is open to high school junior and senior students in Jefferson Parish public, private and parochial schools. Students are selected by school leadership. The curriculum includes an opening and closing/graduation ceremony, as well as instruction on relevant topics in key areas. One of the learning experiences is an opportunity to present to the Jefferson Parish Council.
The free program aims to give students an opportunity to grow their leadership and teamwork skills while making an impact on the community. The year starts with a kick-off retreat to facilitate the intense discussion and interaction among students from all schools. Then participants attend six monthly sessions that examine different facets of Jefferson Parish. Each parish school will select two students to participate in the program.
The program is underwritten by 1st Lake Properties, Atmos Energy, Citizens National Bank, Fidelity Bank, JEDCO, Jefferson Business Council, Jefferson Community Foundation, Jefferson Parish Sheriff’s Office, Inclusivcare, LCMC, Red River Bank, and graduation sponsor Cornerstone Chemical. Additional sponsorship opportunities are available.
