The Port of New Orleans is the only seaport in the U.S. served by all six Class 1 rail lines which include: Burlington Northern Santa Fe Railroad, Canadian National Railroad, CSX Transportation, Kansas City Southern Railway, Norfolk Southern Corp. and Union Pacific Railroad.
The railroads are connected to the Port of New Orleans by New Orleans Public Belt Railroad (NOPB), which maintains the tracks. NOPB also owns the Huey P. Long Bridge, providing railcar access across the Mississippi River.
The Port of New Orleans recently opened the new Mississippi River Intermodal Terminal, which provides quick and efficient intermodal container handling to and from the Napoleon Avenue Container Terminal.
