NEW ORLEANS – Few things scream “New Orleans” louder than the iconic po’boy. In true culinary tradition, Blue Plate Mayonnaise, Chisesi Brothers and Leidenheimer Baking Company are partnering to celebrate National Sandwich Day in style.
The local brands are collectively spreading tradition, one po’boy at a time, by giving away sandwiches on Thursday, Nov. 3. All are welcome to snag a po’boy in front of Gallier Hall, 545 St. Charles Ave., starting at 11:00 a.m. until sandwiches run out.
“We are thrilled to give away a taste of NOLA with this partnership and to offer free po’boys to our community,” said Beth Mauterer, Marketing Manager for Blue Plate Mayonnaise. “And we can’t imagine a better way to celebrate National Sandwich Day than by making the quintessential New Orleans po’boy with its traditional, local ingredients.”
Blue Plate Mayonnaise, Chisesi Brothers and Leidenheimer Baking Co. have all been staples of the New Orleans culinary landscape for over 100 years. Celebrating National Sandwich Day with a partnership between the three companies allows them to provide a great sandwich and unique event to the community, event organizers said. The public is invited to come out and get their complimentary sandwich; one will be given per person.
“We couldn’t think of a better event to spread a New Orleans tradition, celebrate this iconic sandwich and meet all of our neighbors.” said Nicholas Chisesi, 5th generation of Chisesi Brothers. “We hope to make this a yearly event.”
Sandy Whann, President of Leidenheimer Baking Company, said, “we are happy to help put the spotlight on New Orleans’ favorite sandwich and to honor all those po’boy shop owners and restaurateurs who work hard every day to keep our wonderful traditions alive.”
