METAIRIE, La. — In October, the Discovery Schools Network, a charter school system, announced a program that blends traditional learning styles with a virtual experience. Discovery Fusion Health Sciences Academy is designed to allow students to adapt their schedule to their individual needs with virtual and on-campus classes.
“During the pandemic, educators were forced to implement a virtual learning environment. For some students and parents, online learning was a practical solution, leading to a rapid demand for hybrid schools,” said the school’s chief executive officer, Patty Glaser. “Discovery is always ahead of the curve, and we know that this hybrid virtual model will appeal to many students in the state who want the flexibility of a virtual school, but with the stability and option of a campus base that offers face-to-face interactions with teachers.”
Discovery Fusion is to initially open to students entering grades 5-8 for 2024-25. At full scale, Discovery Fusion will serve grades 1-12. It’s a tuition-free charter school with campuses in Baton Rouge and Metairie. Discovery Schools operates three charter schools in Louisiana serving over 3,100 students in grades PK-12.
