Humana To Award $350K Grant To Local Nonprofit, Application Deadline May 29

FOLSOM, LA – On Tuesday, May 5, 2015, health and well-being company Humana Inc. will formally announce that its signature charitable giving program, Humana Communities Benefit, is returning to New Orleans and will more than triple the amount of funding awarded to a local nonprofit to $350,000.

         The announcement will take place at the New Heights Therapy Center’s Riding Stables, 82302 Holliday Rd., in Folsom, from 11:00 a.m. to 11:30 a.m.

         Humana Louisiana Employer Group Vice President Rhonda Bagby, Humana Gulf States Senior Products President April Golenor, New Heights Therapy Center Executive Director Stephen Engro and New Heights Therapy Center Parent Jill Leber will be in attendance.

         Nonprofit 501(c)(3) organizations in Orleans, Jefferson, St. John, St. Charles, St. Tammany, St. Bernard, St. James, Plaquemines, Washington and Tangipahoa parishes that aim to transform their communities by lowering barriers to health and well-being – and whose specific focus or overall efforts address diabetes and/or congestive heart failure – are encouraged to apply for the multi-year, $350,000 charitable grant through Friday, May 29.

         The Humana Communities Benefit program has provided New Orleans nonprofits with transformational grants since 2007. In 2010, New Heights Therapy Center was awarded the Humana Communities Benefit grant and used the funding to improve its riding facility, allowing the organization to provide more therapeutic riding time to people living with disabilities.

         The Humana Foundation, the philanthropic arm of Humana, has awarded nearly $9 million to nonprofits in 12 communities nationwide since the Humana Communities Benefit charitable giving program was introduced in 2003. Humana is one of the leading health benefits companies in Louisiana with more than 300,000 Medicare, commercial and individual health plan members in Louisiana.
