NEW ORLEANS – Further enhancing the continued redevelopment of Canal Street stretching from downtown to Mid-City, Newcrestimage announced its plans to renovate the former ODECOBuilding, named for its original tenant, the Ocean Drilling & Exploration Company, into a dual-branded SpringHill and TownePlace Suites with an unparalleled rooftop bar called Vue at 1600 Canal Street. Vue will debut this month, according to the company's website. The hotel will open in February 2018.
With the opening, hotel management and construction company NewcrestImage celebrates not only the revival of this historic high-rise landmark, but also the first-ever dual-branded SpringHill and TownePlace Suites by Marriott in Louisiana.
The hotel is proud to announce its commitment to the area through its many economic development, community engagement and eco-tourism initiatives.
It will promote a balanced lifestyle for both locals and travelers alike through a comprehensive recycling program and strategic partnerships with organizations such as Eat Fit NOLA, Footprints to Fitness and Hollygrove Farm & Market.
Through its Save Art initiative, the hotel will partner with ReNEW McDonogh City Park Academy (McDonogh 28) and fundraise to donate art supplies and other necessary items. The entire hotel leadership team will complete at minimum six volunteer hours per month.
Additionally, the property at 1600 Canal completed the permit process around the same time that the city's new Comprehensive Zoning Ordinance was enacted, which lead the design team to incorporate a unique stormwater management plan into the design. There are three retention tanks located under the first floor, which collect and filter stormwater from the roof drains into the city's infrastructure. Since the stormwater management concept is new to the city, 1600 Canal will represent one of the first examples of how to successfully implement the idea within an urban/constricted site.
At the time of the ODECO Building's construction in the 1960's, there was a significant demand for office space to accommodate the city's expanding oil and gas industry. Until 1993, ODECO leased the upper floors of the building, which was designed in the 1960s by New Orleans architect Paul Mouton, as office space. As a result, this dual-branded hotel will feature a variety of unique room designs and layouts.
The two separate brands, SpringHill Suites and TownePlace Suites, will be separated by floors, with one shared lobby and complimentary breakfast area. Additionally, this property will be the only Marriott-affiliated hotel in New Orleans that will feature a rooftop bar with stunning views from the Mercedes-Benz Superdome to the Mississippi River.
