Homer A. Plessy Community School Hires News Development Director

NEW ORLEANS – Homer A. Plessy Community School announced the appointment of its new Development Director, Julie Hanks, effective immediately.

         “Julie brings a new perspective to our school’s continued growth and success in the New Orleans community,” said Joan Reilly, head of school at Homer A. Plessy Community School. “We are thrilled to have Julie as part of the Plessy family.”

         As the development director, Hanks will be responsible for the school’s ongoing fundraising initiatives, donor relations, and community partnerships. Hanks holds more than seven years of experience in development and fundraising, and has served in various development roles through the years. Prior to joining Homer A. Plessy Community School, Hanks served as the communications and public relations specialist for Junior Achievement. In this role, Hanks was a member of the launch team creating the Trust Your Crazy Ideas Challenge, in partnership with the Brees Dream Foundation and The Idea Village.

         Homer A. Plessy Community School provides academics through the arts to all of Orleans Parish, but is rooted in the Bywater, Marigny, St. Roch, St. Claude and French Quarter neighborhoods. The hallways of the school reflect the diversity of the sidewalks of New Orleans. Diversity is a powerful tool in a child's education and environment, emphasizing the importance of citizenship and leadership, school reps said.

         Homer A. Plessy Community School opened its doors in 2013. School reps said the arts-integrated, projects-based curriculum provides a stimulating environment that insists on academic excellence in a developmentally appropriate setting for students in grades Pre-K through fifth.
