The Hispanic Chamber of Commerce of Louisiana Foundation (HCCLF) plays a pivotal role in empowering Hispanic businesses and fostering economic growth in the state. As a non-profit organization, HCCLF offers a range of valuable resources and programs tailored to meet the unique needs of the Hispanic community. The foundation operates under the auspices of the Hispanic Chamber of Commerce of Louisiana (HCCL) and was created to strengthen the goals of service and resources to the grassroots community through education, workforce training and opportunities, and technical assistance.
The foundation was established in 2010 with the aim of promoting the advancement of Hispanic-owned businesses and entrepreneurs across Louisiana. The foundation and the HCCL collaborate to amplify the voice and influence of the Hispanic community in the state’s business landscape.
“HCCL and HCCLF work hand in hand,” says Mayra Pineda, who serves as president and CEO of both groups. “HCCL, as the umbrella organization, supports and promotes the work of the foundation. This collaboration is a powerful force.”
One of the core offerings of HCCLF is its commitment to entrepreneurial education and support. Through workshops, seminars and mentoring programs, the foundation equips Hispanic business owners and aspiring entrepreneurs with the skills and knowledge necessary to succeed. These programs cover a wide range of topics, including business planning, marketing strategies, financial management and legal considerations. Other services include career counseling, web-based employment training, resume and cover letter assistance, interview preparation and job placement.
“By providing practical guidance and expert advice,” explains Michelle Aguirre, the foundation’s chair, “HCCLF empowers Hispanic entrepreneurs to navigate the complexities of starting and growing a business successfully.”
The support does not end with educational programming. The foundation organizes regular networking events, business mixers and industry-specific forums that facilitate connections among Hispanic entrepreneurs, professionals and potential clients. These events not only offer a platform for businesses to showcase their products and services, but also create opportunities for collaboration and growth.
“The foundation recognizes the importance of networking and fostering strategic partnerships for the growth of Hispanic-owned businesses,” Aguirre says.
In addition to networking opportunities, the HCCLF actively engages in business development initiatives. By advocating for equal opportunities and providing support, HCCLF plays a crucial role in promoting economic inclusion and equity.
Recognizing the importance of education in empowering individuals and communities, the HCCLF offers scholarships and educational grants to deserving Hispanic students. These financial resources help reduce barriers to higher education and professional development, enabling talented individuals to achieve their aspirations. By investing in education, the foundation helps cultivate a skilled and diverse workforce that drives economic growth and innovation.
The foundation’s digital literacy program provides basic computer training. The program comprises nine modules—skills, personal formation, use of technology, financial literacy, job readiness, interview prep and cultural competence—helping participants gain a competitive profile for the job market and/or to be ready for continued education. “We want to help the Hispanic workforce to be better prepared for the job market,” Aguirre says. “Our efforts aim to help build capacity and find jobs and workforce opportunities in the state for the Hispanic community.”
The Hispanic Chamber of Commerce of Louisiana Foundation serves as a catalyst for the economic advancement of the Hispanic community in Louisiana. Through its diverse range of programs and resources, the foundation empowers Hispanic entrepreneurs and professionals, equipping them with the knowledge, skills and connections necessary to thrive in the business world. From entrepreneurial education and networking opportunities to scholarships and grants, HCCLF demonstrates its unwavering commitment to fostering economic growth and prosperity within the Hispanic community. By harnessing the power of collaboration and inclusivity, the HCCLF continues to make a significant impact on the Louisiana business landscape and beyond.
