Hinyub Tapped As Interim Gretna City Councilmember

GRETNA, LA (AP) — Mike Hinyub, the head of a local construction company, will finish the term of former Gretna City Councilman Joe Marino III.

Marino stepped down Thursday from the District 2 seat after being elected to the state House of Representatives. Five people expressed an interest in an interim council appointment to succeed Marino, who won the right to replace retiring Rep. Bryan Adams when no one else qualified against him.

City Attorney Mark Morgan tells The New Orleans Advocate’s Ramon Antonio Vargas the council decided during a special meeting Monday to seat Hinyub, who will remain in office until the end of June.

Hinyub twice ran for the Gretna council in the 1990s — then called the board of aldermen — but lost each time to the late Sammy Marchese.
