Hospitality and Tourism Job Fair Today for NOLA’s largest industry

The world would be a better place if every single person spent at least three months waiting tables, washing dishes in a restaurant or working at a hotel check-in desk. Because once you have spent time in a hospitality or tourism industry job, you better understand human nature and how to tip.

Today, New Orleans City Councilmember Nadine Ramsay and the New Orleans Convention and Visitors Bureau (NOCVB) are hosting a hospitality and tourism career fair with diverse job openings within the industry. The eighth career fair this year, it is part of a series intending to connect employers with job-seekers in more casual locations, reducing the barriers to employment that some of the large-scale career fairs bring.

The Fair is located at the Tremé Recreation Community Center at 900 North Villere Street and will be held Wednesday, Sept. 14 from 10 a.m. – 1 p.m.

The Hospitality and Tourism Job Fair will connect job hunters with potential employers, facilitate networking and provide assistance in the hiring process. They recommend job seekers bring an updated resume, but it is not required.

Hotel, restaurant and tourism employers will be there to meet one-on-one with prospective employees and give them more background on their company culture and job expectations. The employers will assist the applicants in the job search process.

The job fair is open to everyone and is the first one to be located in the Tremé. This is part of a larger citywide job fair series looking to boost the largest industry in New Orleans. Tourism is a top 10 employer in 49 of the 50 states, and is a $7 billion dollar industry in New Orleans supporting more than 86,000 jobs. The timing is great as tourism is ramping up for the football and holiday season, and before you know it Mardi Gras and the NBA All-Star game will be here too.
