Helm Paint is a household name for New Orleanians—and as they approach their fiftieth year of business in 2020, it’s no wonder.
Founded by Ronald “Bunky” Helm in 1970, the store started out on Earhart with only two parking spaces. Today, it’s grown to include six decorating centers in Orleans, Jefferson, St. Tammany and Tangipahoa parishes. Joe Helm credits this to the nature of Helm Paint: as a family business, they have staff with an enhanced commitment to the goals of the company.
The extremely low employee turnover rate speaks to the familial nature at play as well as to the traditions and personality Bunky Helm brought to the business from its founding. He established Helm as the number one provider of value and satisfaction, which can feel like an empty promise from a business—but not from Helm. At Helm, the value is the point; the focus on value and satisfaction has made them a trusted name for the right products, services, color matching and technical advice.
They work with clients to discover services they need, which has led to free two-hour delivery in the metro area, to develop a network of trusted painters to recommend and more. This includes access to Helm’s deep technical expertise, help with color selection and outside salespeople who sell on-site to hotels, hospitals, new constructions or other projects for customers. As Helm comes to their 50th anniversary, they look forward to continuing to provide that value for fifty more years—and beyond.
