HARAHAN, LA (AP) — Harahan Mayor Tina Miceli has vetoed an ordinance to allow cameras that would photograph speeding vehicles and ticket the owners.
The City Council, which approved the law on a 3-2 vote, now needs four votes to make it stick.
In her veto letter Friday to council members, Miceli reiterated her opposition to traffic enforcement cameras. She said she received complaints from residents who are opposed to the law, and that Police Chief Tim Walker must make better use of patrol officers. The veto, she said, protects "the integrity of our community and the safety of our people."
