Hammond-Based Company To Pay $365K In OT Back Wages

NEW ORLEANS (AP) — A Hammond, Louisiana-based plastering contractor has agreed to pay $365,000 in a dispute involving overtime.

The U.S. Department of Labor's Wage and Hour Division found that Brownlow Plastering LLC misclassified employees entitled to protections under the Fair Labor Standards Act as independent contractors.

The misclassification resulted in the company violating the overtime and record-keeping provisions of the federal law when they failed to maintain accurate daily and weekly records of hours worked as well as paid straight time rates for all hours worked, failing to pay overtime premium for hours worked beyond 40 in a work week.

Officials said Wednesday that the payment will cover wages for 147 employees.
