Gulfport Hospital Closing 8 Medical Clinics

GULFPORT, MS (AP) — Garden Park Medical Center in Gulfport is closing eight of its 10 clinics around South Mississippi.

         In a statement released Wednesday, hospital officials say the closing dates are staggered with some closing as early as May 15 and others in late October.

         Officials say the closings will be primarily in the Biloxi, Diamondhead, Gulfport and Long Beach areas. Patients will be notified this month.

         They say the step is being taken to meet community demand while also managing expenses.

         Officials say while some physicians may continue as independent practices, the hospital will be providing physician referrals and medical record transfers to help patients quickly establish a relationship with new practices if necessary.
