NEW ORLEANS – The GPOA Foundation awarded an $8,000 grant to Early Learning Focus to support its LETS Read Literacy Program at the Homer A. Plessy Community School in the Marigny.
The GPOA Foundation is a grant-making, independent foundation, which supports programs that help children and youth in Orleans and Jefferson Parishes dream bigger dreams and gain the skills to reach them.
Early Learning Focus’ mission is to create a high-quality, seamless system of early childhood development and education for underserved children and their families through public-private partnerships and neighborhood connectedness.
The Homer A. Plessy Community School’s arts-integrated, project-based curriculum provides a stimulating environment that insists on academic excellence in a developmentally appropriate setting. Reps at Plessy said they want their students to mature into whole, healthy people who are confident about their gifts and their place in the world as citizens, who have keen minds and compassionate hearts and who contribute to a world that needs them. They said they are committed to an academic program that emphasizes academic excellence, creativity and a passion for life-long learning.
