Gov.-Elect Edwards To Name Additional Cabinet Members

BATON ROUGE (AP) — Gov.-elect John Bel Edwards said he expects to have most of his cabinet in place before he is sworn into office next week.

Edwards said he may name a few department secretaries after his administration takes over leadership of the state Monday. But he said the "vast majority" of his top jobs and agency chiefs will be named before then.

His latest staff announcements were planned for Tuesday afternoon.

Among positions Edwards has yet to announce are secretaries for the health, labor and social services departments.

The governor-elect said it's been a painstaking process to speak with possible job candidates and interview them in the short time from his November election win to his January inauguration.

Edwards said: "It's critically important to get it right, not just in a hurry."
