BATON ROUGE (AP) — Louisiana's efforts to improve Interstate 10 are getting a boost from $40 million in federal highway aid.
Gov. John Bel Edwards announced the latest grant Thursday. The Advocate’s Will Sentell reports that with the additional money, the state is receiving the full $100 million in federal grants Edwards sought in April from the FASTLANE program.
The $40 million will be used for improvements on I-10 from I-49 in Lafayette eastward to the Atchafalaya Basin.
The other $60 million is being split among projects.
It will help pay for a new off-ramp in Baton Rouge to lessen congestion at an interstate chokepoint; for rail crossing upgrades; and for the design of a revamped interstate interchange leading to a new terminal at the New Orleans airport.
