BATON ROUGE (AP) — The lone Democratic candidate in the Louisiana governor's race lagged behind the Republican contenders in fundraising last year.
State Rep. John Bel Edwards, of Amite, filed his campaign finance report with the state ethics board late Wednesday. He reported raising $360,000 in 2014, coupled with a $25,000 personal loan. He ended the year with $746,000 in his campaign account.
The three GOP candidates in the race, whose campaigns had previously released their fundraising figures, each raised more than Edwards — and each wrapped up 2014 with more cash on hand.
The top money-raiser was U.S. Sen. David Vitter, of Metairie, who took in $4.1 million in contributions by Dec. 31 and closed the year with $3.5 million. He'll also get a boost from a super PAC set up to support his candidacy, which reported $3.1 million in the bank.
Lt. Gov. Jay Dardenne, of Baton Rouge, brought in $690,000 and closed 2014 with $1.5 million in his campaign account. Public Service Commissioner Scott Angelle, of Breaux Bridge, raised $1.5 million and finished the period with $1.4 million.
