Global Electricity Generation Conference Coming to Morial Convention Center

NEW ORLEANS – POWERGEN International, an annual conference focused on the global electricity generation sector, comes Nov. 19-21 to the New Orleans Ernest N. Morial Convention Center.

Headlining the opening keynote is football legend Archie Manning, who will speak on Tuesday, Nov. 19, at 9 a.m. Entergy Chief Operating Officer Paul Hinnenkamp will be one of the keynote speakers on Wednesday, Nov. 20, also at 9 a.m. Entergy Corp. is POWERGEN International’s official host utility and as such will send a large contingent of employees to the event and host several local technical tours open to all POWERGEN International attendees. The utility will open its new St. Charles combined cycle, gas-fired power plant for a tour on Monday and also will host visitors from around the world at its solar pilot project on both Monday and Thursday.

POWERGEN International is entering its fourth decade as a conference and exhibition. It covers all forms of electric power generation, including gas-fired, coal-fired, nuclear, wind, solar and hydro generation, as well as energy storage and microgrids.

The international in POWERGEN International is real. Some projects featured within the more than 80 educational sessions include case studies from the Philippines, India, Ethiopia, South Korea, Vietnam, the Caribbean, as well as Louisiana and the rest of the U.S. More than 30 utility representatives will speak at POWERGEN. In addition, special events are being held to honor woman in the power industry, young professionals and start-up companies.

POWERGEN International, which was last in New Orleans in November 2007, is expected to attract around 14,000 attendees and nearly 800 exhibiting companies, and bring an estimated $16.5 million to the local economy.
