Georgian Furnishing, Berger Home Closing After 47 Years

NEW ORLEANS — Georgian Furnishing and Berger Home will close permanently after 47 years in business. The final liquidation sales at both furniture stores begin April 4.

The Georgian Furnishing building at 5400 Jefferson Highway in Elmwood is for sale as well. Berger Home is located at 1828 N. Causeway Boulevard in Mandeville. Together, the buildings have 40,000 square feet of showroom space.

Sylvia and Walter Berger launched their retail business in 1977 in New Orleans. Their son, Jay, runs the operation today.
