Gathering At New Orleans East Hospital Aims To Bolster Participation In First Regional African American Male Wellness Walk

NEW ORLEANS – Today, City officials and local organizers will gather at New Orleans East Hospital, 5620 Read Blvd., from 11:00 a.m. – 11:30 p.m., to urge the community’s participation in New Orleans’ first African American Male Wellness Walk.

         Those scheduled to attend include District "E" Councilmember James Gray, District "D" Councilmember Jared Brossett, Dr. Takeisha Davis and Pastor Tom Watson.

         The walk is set to take place Saturday, September 17, 2016, at Joe Brown Memorial Park, at 9:00 a.m.

         Presented by New Orleans East Hospital, the New Orleans’ National African American Wellness Walk Initiative aims to increase the number of annual doctor visits, to improve education on healthy habits and to encourage exercise amongst African American men.

         The walk is free and open to the public and will feature a day full of activities for a variety of ages and audiences. Participants will have access to free health screenings, including diabetes, blood pressure and HIV screenings beginning at 7:00 a.m. The 5K run/ walk will follow at 9:00 a.m. Entertainment, music and more will continue throughout the day.
