NEW ORLEANS – The Howard Hughes Corporation® (NYSE: HHC) and The Outlet Collection at Riverwalk® announced the return of the Riverwalk’s Spanish Plaza stage during the annual French Quarter Festival. This continuance of the newest riverfront stage in the city highlights a series of seasonal events that solidify the center’s ongoing commitment to the local community. Whether it’s sampling some of the region’s signature cuisine, “strutting your stuff” to support breast cancer awareness in African-American women or exploring the unique culture of Indonesia, April events at The Outlet Collection at Riverwalk offer something for everyone.
Visitors and locals should be sure to bring their appetite to the NOLA FoodFest on Riverwalk’s Spanish Plaza on April 2-3. They can also enjoy the breathtaking views of the Mighty Mississippi while indulging in hometown fare from dozens of America’s best restaurants, diners and food trucks – hailing all the way from Texas to New York. Several “star chefs” from The Culinary Institute of America (CIA) will also be attending and interacting throughout the weekend. The free event features live music throughout the weekend and a Beignet Eating Contest Sunday, April 3 at 12:30 p.m.
The following weekend, April 8-10, Riverwalk’s Spanish Plaza will once again host the French Quarter Festival's newest riverfront stage, the only one located outside the traditional French Quarter border of Canal Street. Co-sponsored by The Outlet Collection at Riverwalk and Harrah’s New Orleans, Riverwalk’s Spanish Plaza stage also offers another great opportunity for locals and visitors to enjoy the festival or take a break to shop and dine while enjoying the downtown riverfront.
On Saturday, April 16 the Riverwalk’s Spanish Plaza will host the inaugural Sista Strut, a 3K walk to raise awareness of breast cancer, especially in African-American women. The pre-race rally begins at 8 a.m. with the walk starting at 10 a.m. A portion of the proceeds from the walk will benefit Making Strides Against Breast Cancer as part of the American Cancer Society. More information on registration is available here.
The month-long series of events ends April 30 during the first Wonderful Indonesia Festival ever produced in the U.S. Scheduled from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Riverwalk’s Spanish Plaza, the event will provide an opportunity for visitors and locals to discover more about the Asian country through its music, food and traditional dances. The free event will also offer a chance to win a vacation for two to Bali – one of the country’s premier vacation destinations.
