Foundation To Donate $5M To Tulane University

NEW ORLEANS (AP) — The foundation behind Tulane University's Lavin-Bernick Center for University Life has promised the university $5 million to support faculty.

School officials announced Friday that the Carol Lavin Bernick Family Foundation will give the school the money over the next five years.

The New Orleans Advocate reports that the funds will be used for research, recruitment, development, continuing education and student engagement. The funds will also grant individual full-time faculty members up to $15,000.

Tulane President Mike Fitts says that the university is grateful for the support of the foundation.

This is the second $5 million gift the university has received in recent weeks. In January, David Mussafer and his wife Marion donated $5 million to turn the former home of Tulane's School of Social Work into a student center.
