NEW ORLEANS (AP) — Former U.S. Attorney Jim Letten is joining the New Orleans office of a major law firm.
The Butler Snow firm announced Letten's appointment Wednesday. The firm says Letten will work with its investigations and white collar crimes group. He also will consult on defenses including criminal and regulatory investigations, government audits and civil fraud cases.
Letten will continue to serve as assistant dean at Tulane Law School.
Letten gained notoriety in southeast Louisiana for successful prosecutions of public officials, including former Gov. Edwin Edwards. His office successfully prosecuted corrupt judges, police officers and school officials.
He served for more than a decade but stepped down in 2012 after two of his top deputies admitted anonymously posting criticism of judges and comments about cases on a newspaper website.
