NEW ORLEANS (AP) — A federal appeals court will hear arguments in Ray Nagin's challenge to his conviction on fraud charges.
NOLA.com/The Times-Picayune’s Andy Grimm reports the 5th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals last week put the former New Orleans mayor's case on the calendar for the week of Oct. 5. The court will set an exact date and the names of the three judges that will hear arguments in late September.
Nagin was sentenced last year to 10 years in prison for taking bribes from contractors who were seeking city work. Nagin was convicted of 20 counts, but his appeal claims jurors were improperly instructed on how to apply the law on nine counts related to honest services fraud.
Nagin also has challenged a $500,000 judgment entered against him by the court.
