BATON ROUGE (AP) — Former Louisiana House Speaker Charlie DeWitt is the governor's temporary appointment to the state's utility regulatory board, the Public Service Commission.
Gov. John Bel Edwards announced DeWitt's selection Friday to fill the vacancy on the commission caused by the death of Clyde Holloway last weekend.
DeWitt, a Democrat from Alexandria who was in the state House for 28 years, will serve as the PSC commissioner for the 4th District until Dec. 31.
An election for the seat already was set for the November ballot, so the next elected commissioner will take office when the new term begins in January.
In a statement, DeWitt said he'll keep the office running with the same staff through his appointment. The district includes all or part of 17 parishes in central and southwest Louisiana.
