MONROE, LA (AP) — Mayor Jamie Mayo has signed into law a controversial ordinance allowing mobile food vendors to operate in the city.
The Monroe City Council passed the ordinance Oct. 28 with a vote of 3-1. It was originally introduced in April but was delayed because of public concerns and Mayo saying he would veto the ordinance if it reached his desk as written at that time.
The News-Star’s Kaleb Causey reports Mayo's chief concern was the proposed locations for the food trucks. He says the revised ordinance addressed that and now there are designated areas where the trucks can operate.

Council Chairman Ray Armstrong and Mayo each say the ordinance will help enhance the community and spark economic growth.
