Five Happiness Restaurateur Paggy Lee Named Grand Marshal Of Nyx

NEW ORLEANS – The Mystic Krewe of Nyx announced that Paggy Lee, owner of Five Happiness restaurant and a charter member of Nyx, will preside over this year’s parade as its Grand Marshal.

Lee came to New Orleans from California in 1978 and opened the popular restaurant on Carrollton Avenue, which has been regularly recognized by media outlets as the best Chinese restaurant in the city.

“It is particularly fitting that Paggy Lee is serving as grand marshal of our 5th anniversary parade,” Nyx Captain Julie Lea said. “Paggy has been a Nyx member from the beginning. She always found time to be a supportive and dedicated member, helping our efforts to build Nyx into what it is today – the largest all-female Mardi Gras Krewe in New Orleans.”

Nyx parades this year on Wednesday, February 3, 2016, on the traditional uptown route. Over 2,200 women will parade this year on 39 floats. Each Nyx member will be tossing artful, hand-decorated purses, the Krewe’s signature throw.

The popular Nola Nyxettes dance troupe will also be kicking and strutting in New Orleans parades this year. In addition to dancing in Nyx, the Nyxettes will be supporting many of the city's other Mardi Gras Crews by marching in 6 additional parades: Ferret, King Arthur, Iris, Thoth and Zulu.

The NOLA Nyxettes believe that dance, like music, is a universal language. Their mission is to offer the women of Metro New Orleans a creative outlet and a chance to embrace art in the form of dance. Combining sisterhood and philanthropy with the love of dance; the NOLA Nyxettes said they give back to the city of New Orleans and unite women of diverse backgrounds for fun, friendship, and the merriment of the Mardi Gras season.
