Fisher & Phillips Welcomes Back Scott Schneider As Partner

NEW ORLEANS — Fisher & Phillips LLP, a national labor and employment law firm, announced that Scott Schneider has returned to the firm as a partner to head the Higher Education section of the Education Practice Group. His practice has a particular emphasis on how Title IX impacts educational institutions. Schneider is no stranger to the firm, having practiced law in the New Orleans office from 1998 to 2009.

         The past six years, Schneider has served as Associate General Counsel at Tulane University and as a professor at the Tulane University School of Law and Freeman School of Business where he taught courses on, among other things, Higher Education Law. Schneider brings 16 years of experience back to the firm.

         Schneider added that he is looking forward to helping the firm’s existing higher education clients and to building a substantial national higher education practice for the firm. “Title IX is just one of many laws that can be challenging for colleges and universities to comply with properly,” Schneider said. “Having worked on these issues within a university setting, I have gained a unique perspective that will benefit our higher education clients. This experience coupled with Fisher & Phillips’ national reach will allow us to provide cost effective legal services to colleges and universities throughout the country.”

         The Fisher & Phillips Education Practice Group will also offer a Title IX/Violence Against Women Act (VAWA) Compliance Package for educational institutions in light of the increased focus by the Obama Administration, the Office of Civil Rights and plaintiffs’ attorneys on educational institutions’ compliance with Title IX and VAWA. The package will combine on-campus assessment with off-campus policy review, offering services such as Title IX/VAWA Training, Off-Campus Title IX Support and more.

         Schneider earned his law degree from Washington and Lee University School of Law and his Bachelor of Science in Economics from the University of New Orleans. He has garnered many awards and accomplishments during his career. In 2007, he was appointed by Governor Bobby Jindal to the Louisiana Board of Ethics to represent the First Congressional District and served as Vice Chairman.  In addition, he currently serves on Senator J.P. Morrell’s Louisiana Sex Assault Task Force, which is studying sex assault on college campuses.
