First Lady Michelle Obama And Dr. Jill Biden To Join Mayor Landrieu For Veteran Homelessness Invitation Only Event On Monday

NEW ORLEANS – On Monday, April 20, 2015, First Lady Michelle Obama and Dr. Jill Biden will join Mayor Mitch Landrieu and leaders from across government, industry and the non-profit sector for an invitation only event to celebrate progress on the Mayors Challenge to End Veteran Homelessness and discuss lessons learned, amplify solutions and announce new resources aimed at assisting communities that have signed on to the Mayors Challenge. The event is in support of the Joining Forces initiative and part of marking the fourth anniversary of the initiative started by the First Lady and Dr. Biden.

In June 2014, as part of the Joining Forces initiative, the First Lady launched the Mayors Challenge and New Orleans was among the first cities to sign up. Thus far, 432 mayors, seven governors, and 131 other local officials have committed to ending veteran homelessness in their communities by the end of this year. In December 2014, New Orleans became the first major city to meet the challenge and end veteran homelessness.

The event will include remarks from First Lady Michelle Obama, Dr. Jill Biden and Mayor Landrieu. Following the speaking program, attendees will participate in discussion forums on veteran homelessness.
