Firm Recommended for Lake Charles Development

LAKE CHARLES, LA (AP) — Mayor Randy Roach has introduced an ordinance recommending Lake Charles retain the Lafayette-based Architects Southwest to help draw up a plan for new use of land along the city's lakefront.

Justin Phillips with The American Press reports if the City Council approves the recommendation, the firm would create a master plan and design guidelines for bounded on the east by Bilbo Cemetery and on the west by the office of the Southwest Louisiana Convention and Visitors Bureau.

Roach's recommendation is rooted in the firm's familiarity with the area's Smart Code development guidelines. Architects Southwest has worked on a number of local projects, including redevelopment after Hurricane Rita struck in 2005. The firm's services would coincide with lakefront market analysis being conducted by the firm CBRE Inc.
