FEMA Extends Flood Insurance Claim Deadline

SHREVEPORT, LA (AP) — The Federal Emergency Management Agency has extended its filing deadline for Louisiana policyholders impacted by recent Red River flooding.

FEMA's National Flood Insurance Program normally requires homeowners to file a Proof of Loss form to claim damages within 60 days of a flood. The agency has authorized an additional 180-day extension during which a policyholder may submit the form.

Insurance Commissioner Jim Donelon said in a news release the extension applies to Louisiana policyholders who submit claims related to flooding from May 16 to June 16.
