Episode 192: Dawn Bradley-Fletcher Talks About Breaking the Cycle of Homelessness

On April 14, the New Orleans Women & Children’s Shelter officially cut the ribbon on a new home in Mid-City. The converted hotel will allow the shelter to grow its services for homeless families in the metro area and double its sheltering capacity. On this week’s podcast, NOWCS CEO Dawn Bradley-Fletcher talks about why this move will help the city break the cycle of homelessness.

Dawn Bradley-Fletcher has guided the New Orleans Women & Children’s Shelter since its inception as a temporary shelter after Hurricane Katrina. NOWCS has grown in its scope as the only homeless shelter for intact families (including fathers) and the largest homeless shelter for women and children in the metro area.

NOWCS said it has served more than 4,300 parents and children recovering from homelessness with a 98% success rate in preventing the return to homelessness. More than two-thirds of those served have been children.
