BATON ROUGE – The Emerge School for Autism, a tuition-free public charter school, has welcomed Yalonda Short as its new principal.
Short is an Army veteran and educator of 10 years with a bachelor’s degree in child development and a master’s degree in teaching with a focus on leadership in urban education from Southern University.
“We could not be happier to welcome Principal Short to our school,” said Emerge CEO Deanna Whittle. “Her extensive background as an awarded educator will allow Emerge to continue being an innovative, progressive organization that changes the lives of children in our community each day.”
Short has won multiple “teacher of the year” awards.
“There is absolutely nothing more gratifying than watching kids learn and grow both academically and socially,” she said. “I truly believe that every child can learn in their own way. It is our job as educators to provide the highest quality of instruction and foster learning experiences every day.”
The Emerge School, which serves 48 students, provides Speech, Occupational and Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) therapies combined with special education services.
