NEW ORLEANS — On Aug. 25, the Louisiana Secretary of State certified that Dr. Sharon Latten Clark will succeed Kira Orange Jones as the Board of Elementary and Secondary Education representative from District 2.
“Dr. Clark is the perfect representative to follow the twelve years of strong representation provided by Ms. Orange-Jones,” said Caroline Roemer, executive director of the Louisiana Association of Public Charter Schools in a press release. “She provides front-line experience as a school leader who has dealt with staff, students, parents, and the community in creating accountable public education. There is no doubt that she will be a wonderful addition to BESE.”
Clark has worked in public education for more than 25 years. She was one of the first school leaders to return to New Orleans after Hurricane Katrina.
“She is hard-working, forward-thinking and supportive of policies which will ensure every child in Louisiana has access to quality public schools,” said Roemer. “LAPCS would like to thank Kira Orange Jones for setting a high bar in the representatives that serve BESE, and we are proud that Dr. Clark will build on her legacy.”
