SAN ANTONIO (AP) — A legal battle in Texas involving New Orleans Saints and Pelicans owner Tom Benson and control of a nearly $1 billion family estate trust has been settled.
The San Antonio Express-News’ David Hendricks reports a settlement in the lawsuit involving control of the estate trust was reached Friday. Terms are confidential. The dispute involved a trust left by Benson's first wife, who died in 1980.
The resolution halts a civil trial in San Antonio that was to start Feb. 1.
The lawsuit is part of legal fights that began after the 88-year-old Benson announced his decision to oust his daughter and her two children from ownership positions with his sports franchises.
A decision is pending from a Louisiana appeals court on the family members' efforts to have Benson declared legally incompetent.
