NEW ORLEANS (AP) — Dillard University has frozen admission to its popular nursing degree program for the fall of 2017 as it evaluates and makes improvements.
The university has only a 50 percent pass rate on the national registered nursing licensure exam. Louisiana State Board of Nursing spokesman David Grubb says that state requires 80 percent.
For that reason, Dillard has only conditional approval from the state board right now.
Grubb says Dillard's national accreditation runs through 2017.

Students already enrolled in the program may finish their degree. But incoming freshmen will not be able to begin their nursing studies in the fall of 2017, and thus the university wanted to alert them in time to choose another major.
