NEW ORLEANS – Deutsch Kerrigan hosted the Loyola College of Law Siegenthaler-Sutherland Cup National First Amendment Moot Court Team for a practice round, on Wednesday, March 15, as the team prepares for its competition.
Team members Samantha Spitale and Scott Hamilton, coached by Loyola 3L Henry Gerbracht, presented oral argument to a panel of four Deutsch Kerrigan attorneys who served as Justices of the Supreme Court of the United States for the practice round. Special partners Suzan N. Richardson and Denia S. Aiyegbusi and associates Cassie E. Preston and Victor M. Jones comprised the panel, firing questions at the well-prepared student attorneys.
Deutsch Kerrigan associate Evan J. Bergeron serves as the advisor to the team and will travel with them to their competition in Washington, DC. Bergeron’s practice areas include First Amendment and Media Law. “I am so proud of the work these students have put in on such a complex and relevant topic,” Bergeron said. “The questions from this practice round were some of the toughest we’ve seen, and the team delivered outstanding arguments.”
Civil Litigation Department Vice-Chairman Jerry Glas stressed Deutsch Kerrigan’s commitment to supporting the legal community and the lawyers of tomorrow. “Our firm welcomes the chance to work with the next generation of lawyers,” he said. “Their energy is contagious, and their natural ability is remarkable. We wish them good luck at the competition, and we know they will be excellent additions to the practice.”
The Siegenthaler-Sutherland Cup National First Amendment Moot Court Competition takes place March 24-25, at the Catholic University of America and the Newseum in Washington, DC.
