NEW ORLEANS – Delgado Community College is honoring the beloved “Soul Queen of New Orleans,” Irma Thomas, with an event at the college’s City Park Campus in New Orleans on Saturday, February 13, 2016, from 8:00 p.m. – 12:00 a.m.
Thomas, a Grammy-winning singer and member of the Blues Hall of Fame, is a Delgado graduate, having attended classes as an adult in order to earn her degree in Business Studies.
“Irma’s 75th Birthday Bash” is both a celebration of the singer’s birthday and a fundraiser for the Irma Thomas Center for W.I.S.E. Women, which the singer helped establish at Delgado ten years ago.
The Irma Thomas Center for W.I.S.E. (Women In Search of Excellence) Women exists to empower women to help fulfill their academic, personal and professional potential.
Tickets for the event are $20 in advance and $25 at the door in the Student Life Center.
Admission for those attending a 7:00 p.m. Patron Party is $100.
