Delgado Community College Student Fields Receives Scholarship Sponsored By Fifth District Savings Bank

NEW ORLEANS –Delgado West Bank Campus student Charboni Fields is the first recipient of a new $4,000 scholarship sponsored by Fifth District Savings Bank in collaboration with the Algiers Economic Development Foundation and the Delgado Community College Foundation.

The funds enabled Fields to work during the spring semester at the Algiers offices of Fifth District Savings Bank, which satisfies the requirements of the internship course for an associate degree in the Division of Business and Technology at Delgado. Students must have completed 33 credit hours toward their degree program to be eligible to apply.

Fields, who will graduate from Delgado on Tuesday, May 16, majored in business and management with a concentration in human resources. She is a 1993 graduate of Xavier University Preparatory School.

The scholarship opportunity is designed to provide a Delgado student an introduction to the banking industry by exposing them to all organizational departments within the bank. The student is responsible for providing high-quality customer service and representing the bank in a professional manner while learning a variety of banking functions.

“Fifth District Savings Bank is proud to partner with Delgado in this externship program,” said Brian W. North, the bank’s president and chief executive officer. “The combination of classroom learning and practical work experience will help prepare these students for the real-life business challenges that await them upon graduation.”

Fields, 42, is a Harvey, Louisiana, resident and the mother of a two-year-old son and three daughters—each of whom has pursued a professional career. The oldest is a nursing student, another studied phlebotomy and the third is a cosmetologist. “I made sure they finished school before I started my degree program at Delgado,” Fields said. She credits Delgado’s online classes for helping her get off to a strong start.
