NEW ORLEANS – Delgado Community College and Chevron, in partnership with The Fab Foundation, will celebrate the grand opening of Fab Lab NOLA, a new fabrication lab located on Delgado’s City Park campus, on Wednesday, Nov. 16, from 3:30 p.m. – 5:00 p.m.
Fab Lab NOLA will be a hands-on, dedicated space for STEM-based learning. Kindergarten through 12th grade students, post-secondary students, as well as community members will be able to access engineering-inspired processes and manufacturing to create almost anything they can imagine. Fab Lab NOLA is made possible through a $1 million contribution by Chevron, part of the company’s $10 million commitment to the Fab Foundation in 2014.
During the event, attendees will hear remarks from Delgado, Chevron and the Fab Foundation, and participate in hands-on demonstrations staffed by students who will describe the equipment’s contribution to a design or product.
Demonstrations will include:
• Laser cutting technology with participants adding custom details to surfaces
• 3D printing, which creates solid objects by adding successive layers of material
• 4'x8' routing will be used to cut a variety of hard materials
• Vinyl cutting which uses a blade to cut out shapes from sheets of thin plastic
