Delgado Announces Priority Registration For Military Veterans

NEW ORLEANS — Delgado Community College announced that Veterans Priority Registration for the Summer and Fall 2016 sessions will be available from Wednesday, March 16, through – Sunday, March 20, 2016.

The college has reserved these dates for veterans who are registered with Delgado Veterans Affairs to schedule their classes before the college opens registration to other students on Monday, March 21.

“We are very excited to provide this opportunity to our veterans,” said Dr. Arnel Cosey, Delgado vice chancellor for student affairs. “It is an ongoing effort to honor and respect them and their service to this country.”

Those wishing to enroll in Delgado classes during Veterans Priority Registration should sign up on LoLA, the college’s online student services system. All class registration for veterans will be done online.

Delgado currently enrolls 1,072 veterans, spouses and dependents. Veterans Priority Registration is available only to the veterans, not spouses or dependents.

About 2% of Louisiana’s veterans currently receive services in New Orleans, but an estimated 9.5% of the state’s veterans reside in the city, making the opportunities provided at Delgado critical in expanding much-needed services to that entire population.

The latter program provides accelerated training for eligible students in advanced manufacturing and energy programs. Scale-Up SELA students also receive support services to help ensure successful completion of programs, opportunities to gain national industry-recognized certifications and job readiness/ placement assistance.

Delgado recently established a Veterans Resource Center on the City Park Campus. The center houses the VA Certifying Officer, Veterans Upward Bound and the DVOP Officer.

As a result of its attention to the needs of the veterans and active military community, Delgado Community College has been designated a Governor’s Military and Veteran Friendly Campus.

The designation was designed to commend those institutions that have gone above and beyond to create a supportive environment for veteran and military students. It is intended to assist veterans in selecting the Louisiana institution that best fits their needs.

To receive the Governor’s designation, state schools must offer admissions policies and academic and student support services tailored to military and veteran students and other veteran-specific practices.
