David Duke Considers Run Against Scalise

WASHINGTON (AP) — Former Ku Klux Klan leader David Duke says he may run for Congress against the No. 3 House Republican, Steve Scalise of Louisiana.

Scalise recently apologized for a speech he gave in 2002 to a white supremacist group founded by Duke.

Duke said in an interview this week with a Louisiana radio host, Jim Engster, that Scalise is a sell-out and should resign from Congress. He said that he will consider running against him.

Aides to Scalise did not immediately respond to calls seeking comment.

Duke criticized Scalise for reportedly describing himself years ago as "David Duke without the baggage." Duke said that Scalise is "not David Duke."

Duke's comments were first reported by the news website Buzzfeed.
